This is an introductory course to the history of philosophy for BA students in Arts and Culture. The course focuses on the contrast between rationality and its opposite throughout Ancient, Medieval and Modern philosophy. I have recently revised it to include less canonical figures such as Ottobah Cugoano or the by-now canonical by still under-appreciated Mary Wollestonecraft.
This methodological course teaches BA students in Arts and Culture to study concepts across three different axes: historical, analytical, and ameliorative. Following a co-creation pedagogical idea, each student picks their own concept and writes a final essay that combines the three axes.
This is a semester-long course for students in the MA Arts and Culture. It teaches them research and writing skills and prepares them for the thesis writing process.
